Did you know that you go into a Hypnotic Trance every day?

swinging_watchHave you ever been really engrossed in a good film, when suddenly it ends and what felt like 20 minutes has flown by.

Or maybe you have been in a lift and got out on the wrong floor? You’re in a lift and everyone is transfixed as the floor numbers roll by. And the lift goes up or down, then when the door opens, you follow everybody else out. Your automatic action is a natural process where your unconscious mind takes over, so you don’t have to think about things all the time.

Or maybe you have driven along a familiar route, perhaps to work, and you reach your destination, you get out of the car, and suddenly you realise, “Where did the last half hour go to?” Your unconscious mind was guiding your drive home, whilst your conscious mind relaxed and zoned out, while you focused on more interesting subjects.

We all experience trance in the course of a normal day, often whilst performing habits like brushing our teeth or driving on ‘autopilot’.

Think about the moment just before you fall asleep at night: you know you could open your eyes if you wanted to, but it feels so good that you simply want to keep them shut. That in-between-awake-and asleep time is a natural trance state.

Imagine an iceberg submerged under the ocean. Above water, the iceberg only shows about 10% of its full bulk. This is the conscious part of the mind; the logical, analytical, thinking part of the mind. Below the water line is the unconscious mind which stores your memories, emotions, instincts, habits, imagination, dreams and inner wisdom as well as running the body and keeping you safe.

While your conscious part of the mind is less active, the unconscious part of the mind can absorb and accept suggestions and ideas. Remember your unconscious mind makes up approximately 90% of your overall brain power, so it’s easy to see how trance can be such a powerful state.

Hypnotherapy helps people make changes to their behaviour. It cannot force you to make any changes against your will. It is a state of deep relaxation. In hypnosis, your conscious mind is less active and your unconscious mind is ready to absorb and accept positive ideas and suggestions to help you change the behaviours you want to change, enhancing your well-being and empowering your life.

Many creative, productive people enter these altered sates of consciousness, these mini trances, in order to do things they are good at.

2016 – Year of Creation

Crystal Grid 2016

2016 is a year of creation. You chose to become a physical being on this planet to create. Your greatest purpose is to manifest the Creator / God / Goddess / Divine / All That Is through every expression, action and reaction you take.

It is time to realise your abilities of creation, and more importantly, to put them into action. Your soul is waiting and ready to express its creativity through your physical body. You have the power to create whatever experience you wish for. What do you wish for? What it is that your soul wants to create?

Spend time contemplating your ideas, wishes and dreams.

Take time to sit peacefully and focus your attention on your heart chakra, as you breathe allow the energy of your soul to flow into your heart centre.

Ask yourself, “what do I want to create?

Allow your ideas to flow. Allow energies, visions, frequencies, ideas, colours, inspiration, enlightenment or understanding to form. Perhaps you may gain a clear picture or it may simply be a feeling or a thought.

If no inspiration arises, ask your soul what it wishes for. Just go with it. And then take action. Write, draw, dance, play, do something, create something and have fun!

What are you going to create in 2016?

Everything in Moderation

According to the British Dietetic Association,
the average person will consume 6,000 kcals on Christmas day.

If the ‘average’ person consumes 6,000 kcals, that implies a lot more people must be eating significantly more calories to counterbalance all those people eating a lot less. Wow. I know I like my chocolate but I don’t think even I could eat 6,000 kcals in one day!

Research says that “over the festive period, which seems to kick off earlier and earlier every year, the average person could consume an extra 500 kcals per day, equating to a weight gain of around 5lb by the time we reach the beginning of the New Year.”

I’ve spent the last few months exercising more and getting fit. It would be a shame if I undid all of my success to date for a few weeks over indulgence.

This made me think, “How could I make sure I don’t gain weight or inches and maybe even lose some weight or inches between now and the New Year.”

  • How would you feel in January if you have gone backwards?
  • How are you going to feel if you have undone all your good work so far?
  • Now imagine how good you will feel if you were slimmer and healthier in the New Year.

The main difference between me and a slimmer person is the way they think.

When I’m being good, I stick to my healthy eating and exercise daily. And then something happens – I get stressed or tired and eat chocolate, or maybe just enjoy my food and drink too much on a night out. Then my thinking gets all screwed, “That’s it, I’ve blown it, all that hard work out of the window, I might as well carry on eating. Pass me the chocolate!”

This is the key difference between a ‘slim thinking’ person and an ‘overweight thinking’ person. The ‘overweight thinking’ person thinks “I’ve had too much wine / cake / chocolate / dessert / food, I might as well keep drinking or eating”. Whereas a “slim thinking” person enjoys their night out or that special dessert and the next day returns to their usual healthy eating.

I’ve decided I’m going to think more like a ‘slim thinking’ person over the festive season.

The great thing about the festive season is that most people have time off work. You are free to slow down and really appreciate the company around you.

Slowing down when you eat and eating with consciousness helps you eat less and be satisfied with eating less. Did you know, the average adult human stomach can hold only about two heaped handfuls of food (about the size of a small cantaloupe)? Eating slowly and consciously helps you become aware of that heavy fullness in the stomach that indicates the point of satiety. Once you slow down and tune into your stomach you can enjoy the feeling of lightness and not being stuffed like a Christmas turkey!

I know there are going to be certain meals when I will be eating and drinking a lot more than usual; there will also be meals in between where I can enjoy eating less. I can enjoy that lightness and give my digestive system a break too.

I find it helps to have a target to focus on. One of the best targets is to chose an item of clothing that you want to fit in to in the near future. For me it’s a pair trousers that are too tight to do up.

I also find it helps if you use a smaller plate and drink with a small glass. Have you noticed how big wine glasses are now days? I prefer to use my wine tasting glass; it’s the prefect size. Think about the little changes you can make, they all add up.

My plan is simple enjoy everything in moderation:

  • Think like a ‘slim thinking’ person.
  • Plan healthy meals around events that I know are happening.
  • Allow myself to have what I want to eat and drink at planned events and commit to healthy eating in between.
  • Eat more slowly and enjoy the company of my family and friends.
  • Give my digestive system a break by enjoying the spaces between my planned events and eating less at other meal times.
  • Do something active everyday.

On 4th January I will try my trousers on again and see if I can get into them!

Have a great Christmas and fabulous New Year.

New Moon Wishes

New moons are perfect for promoting new beginnings. The energy of the new moon is a great time to set intentions for things you’d like to create, develop, cultivate, and manifest.

With this in mind, I’ve decided to start writing down my wishes, needs and wants at each new moon for the month ahead.

Just like positive affirmations, you need to write your wish in the present tense as if you have already achieved it. For example instead of writing “I want to be slim” write it as if it was already true, for example “I am slim, fit and healthy”.

You can start your wishes with the words “I wish to …” or use the words “I am”. “I am” is a very powerful way to start your wishes as the words you add after “I am” shape your reality.

It’s important to handwrite your wishes, as oppose to type them. Something magical flows through you when you handwrite your wishes. When you write your wish, you crystallize it and give it tangible form. You create something you can touch and see. A wish that is not written down is just fantasy – there’s no energy behind it.

You can write a number of wishes, but it’s more potent when you focus on less than ten wishes. Use your intuition to assess whether your wish is the right one for you. Tune into your heart and then write your wish. If it doesn’t feel right, change the wording or the wish until feels right.

Sometimes wishes may not take longer than a month to manifest, others may appear in a different form or they may not be for your highest good. Be patient. Trust that changes are occurring, and most importantly have fun!

According to Jan Spiller in her book ‘New Moon Astrology’, the most potent time to make your new moon wishes is up to 8 hours after the time of the new moon, but they can be made up to 48 hours later.

So why not use today’s new moon to write your own new moon wishes.
